Mesmerizing Beauty that Vigan holds

Image
Vigan City is already a tourist attraction in and of itself. You can see the Spanish-era homes and streets from everywhere. Additionally, calesas (horse-drawn buggies) provide rides around the city. Numerous shops selling gifts may also be found on the city’s streets. It is also known for its cobblestone streets and unique architecture, which combines Philippine and Oriental building designs and construction techniques with colonial European architectural styles. Vigan was inscribed on the UNESCO World Legacy List in recognition of its one-of-a-kind Spanish colonial history in Asia, well-preserved Spanish structures and edifices, and vibrant cultural heritage.  When you visit Vigan in the first week of May for the feast of Sto Cristo Milagroso de Vigan, you’ll observe that the city’s population is dotted with massive buildings constructed of light materials. These buildings are located throughout Vigan’s streets. It’s similar to a welcome arch constructed entirely of bamboos,...

CBR: Short Journey of Exploration

Our group in Community-Based Research wasn't the perfect ideal typa group, and our process isn't as smooth as butter. But with coordination and team work, we made our output better than what we have imagined.  As you can see here, we had ofcourse our planningg as starter for our study. Here, we planned everything that are needed for the whole output and we divided the works to each one of us. For us, we believe that having an organized plan before you conduct is way better because it already is systematic enough and all we have to do is conduct the research. No interruptions and it indeed helped us to finish it faster and easier.   Then, the most satisfying part of this is the presentation. Aside from it is the last thing we need to do, it also give flashbacks to all the stuff we have worked hard for. This last task made us realize that everything was made with passion and dedication, that we already made it to the end and our work is slowly coming to an end. No more stre...

CNY: Celebrating the Beauty of Differences

Image
We, the Filipinos celebrate Chinese New Year due to the country's significant Chinese-Filipino population and the deep cultural ties between our communities. Over centuries, Chinese immigrants have contributed to Philippine society, bringing their traditions and celebrations along with them. As a result, Chinese New Year has become an integral part of the Philippines' diverse cultural landscape and we are celebrating it with them as a form of respect to their traditions.  In cities with substantial Chinese communities, such as Manila, Cebu, and Davao, you'll find colorful parades, dragon and lion dances, and fireworks displays during Chinese New Year. Many Filipinos, regardless of their ethnic background, join in the festivities, enjoying traditional Chinese food, giving and receiving red envelopes or the so called 'angpao', and hoping for good luck and prosperity in the coming year. It's a wonderful example of how different cultures can blend and enrich each ot...

Hope of New Beginnings

Image
I have always believed that closing another chapter can be such a blessing because it only means opening new opportunities and possibilities in our lives. Last year was indeed a roller coaster of emotions. I felt genuine happiness, achieved some of my goals, explored new places, met new people, tried new activities and most of all, learned my lessons, not only in school but in all aspects of my life. I can say that it wasn't the easiest one to handle but I'm glad that all things happened because I really gained a lot of knowledge from those experiences.   Despite the happiness I have felt, I was also heartbroken, devastated, frustrated and also failed. But those didn't stop me from surviving, from rising amidst the big waves of life. And now, as 2025 enters, I am looking forward to achieve more of my objectives, make myself more proud, be mature enough to handle things and enjoy every process. Because if I am being honest, I am on my survival mode every single day and it...

Blue Christmas

Image
As we grow older, we cannot really deny that the world is also changing. But one thing that bothers me all the time is that, is the spirit of christmas really gone?or we just grew that much and we cannot feel the excitement anymore? Because as far as I remember, when I was a child, I used to be reallyy excited about the thoughts of celebrating christmas with bunch of gifts and delicious foods. Now that I am a teenager, it feels like just a normal day. Well, I can't tell what exactly the reason why because I am also wondering.   This year, I had holiday blues, for the 2nd time in a row. Maybe because my father is miles away from me and it is now my 2nd christmas without him. Another thing is that I am only having Noche Buena with my grandparents and what made me even more sad is when my lolo said "huwag niyo nalang ako gisingin ng 12, wala rin naman tayong kasama so hindi ko rin feel". It breaks my heart hearing those words coming from him, so maybe that's why I didn...

VAWC: TIME TO RAISE AWARENESS THROUGH ADVOCACY In our society, cases of abused women and children has exploded over the years.  More than 70% of sexually abused children are between 10 and 18 years old. Among those victims, 20% are under 6 years old. Cases of child sexual abuse are one of the most common issues that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has to handle after abandonment and neglect.  Despite the Anti-Rape Law of 1997, rape remains the most frequent type of sexual abuse, followed by incest and fondling. 98% of rape victims are women. The incest percentage is another alarming data: 33%. ● 98% of these sexually abused children are girls. The 2015 Child Protection Network Annual Report states that 87% of all cases of sexual violence are girls, 11.7% of which occurred in the family home. While victims of sexual exploitation for commercial purposes are predominantly 13 to 18 year-old girls, some of them were forced into prostitution from age 10 for t...

SECOND OUT OF FOUR

HALFWAY THROUGH SUCCESS  Looking back on this 2nd quarter journey, I really had a roller-coaster of emotion. Just like when we were still on the 1st quarter, but this time, I don't have much things to talk about. To be honest, there's nothing you can see here on my reflection (only some of the things that are important for me - lol.)  One of the reasons why I said this would be just a short recap is that I didn't have a lot of time to embrace this another chapter since I had a really busy schedule and I wasn't able to attend everyday class. It was really hard for me to multitask since I had my intensive journalism training/sessions and I only get to spend some time with my friends during my free time.  However, I still enjoyed things we did because of my classmates — especially my friends who helped me overcome my doubts and also helped me cope up with the things I have missed since my training days.  Even though I had a hard time doing the activities, they ma...
